Darth Jim Scottís House Rules for Conversions to XPG.

The beauty of Deep7ís XPG system is in it being a cinematic system. That is, it is not so much concerned with how many health points Listerís right arm has, nor does it concern itself with having a specific rule governing every aspect or action in the Game. The Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius once said the first principle is simplicity (or was that Hannibal Lecter who said that? Who gives a smeg!). Anyway the XPG system provides you with a simple 2d6 dice mechanic to resolve game action, leaving lots of room to ham it up through role-playing & not get all bogged down in a sea of rules & rules variations five times more complex than the Talmud! Not that I am putting down complex RPGs mind you. Rather I am merely praising simpler ones.

My basic theory behind XPG conversion is to focus on the stats. Simply find the corresponding character stat or equivalent in the game system you wish to convert then match it with the corresponding XPG stat. Find the upper & lower ranges of the stat numbers & make your nearest guess as to their equivalence. For example: If we consider the stat range of a basic human in XPG for let us say the STRENGTH stat. That number range is from 1 to 6. If in some other RPG system the range is 1-12 for the Strength stat or the equivalent attribute & the characterís score is 10 simply divide it in half.

When it comes to Skills conversion, use basically the same principle, while noting XPG has the added advantage of having the skill designation "Other". This means you can add new skills whose equivalent you canít match to an XPG player character sheet (at the Game Masterís discretion of course).

Well, maybe it is best that I show you. Please note the following conversions are my own and do not reflect the official views of any of the non-XPG RPG systems or their creators.

 

 

 

 

1. Converting genreDiversion i to XPG

 

Stats
Abilities in the genreDiversion i must be converted to Stats. First determine the Stats to which abilities correspond. Round up all calculations if necessary.

AGILITY: - calculate average of AWARENESS + FITNESS

DEXTERITY: - calculate average of CREATIVITY + FITNESS

STRENGTH: - use FITNESS

INTELLIGENCE: - use REASONING

PERCEPTION: - use AWARENESS
WILL: use either Composure Skill rating or INFLUENCE ability

2. Converting old genreDiversion (i.e. HARDNOVA one, EARTH AD etc) to XPG.

Stats
Traits in the old genreDiversion must be converted to Stats. First determine the Stats to which traits correspond.

First to calculate both the AGILITY & DEXTERITY Stats you must take the current REACTION secondary trait and subtract it from 12. Then take the resulting number & divide by 2. If the resulting number is an even number then the division of that number by 2 is used for both your AGILITY & DEXTERITY Stats. If on the other hand the resulting number is odd then take the division of that number by two and round it both up & down. Then use the two values for the AGILITY & DEXTERITY Stats as you see fit.

Example: A character has a REACTION trait of 7. 12-7=5. 5 divided by 2 is 2.5. Rounding up and down gives you Stat values of 3 & 2 respectively. You can then assign either of these values to AGILITY and the other to DEXTERITY as you see fit.

STRENGTH: uses the FITNESS Trait.

INTELLIGENCE: uses the REASONING Trait.

PERCEPTION: uses the EMPATHY Trait.

WILL: uses the WILLPOWER Trait.

Traits, Tags and Skills are determined the same way in the old genreDiversion as they are in genreDiversion i.

 

 

3. Horror Rules CrucificTion Games System to Deep7 XPG

Stats
Vital Stats (i.e. Vitals) in the Horror Rules CrucificTion Games System must be converted to XPG Stats . First determine the XPG Stats to which Vital Stats correspond.

 

AGILITY: (use average of BULK + COORDINATION) +1

DEXTERITY: use Vital Stat COORDINATION+1

STRENGTH: use Vital Stat BULK +1

INTELLIGENCE: use Vital Stat BRAINS +1

PERCEPTION: (use average of BRAINS + WILL) +1
WILL: use Vital Stat Will + 1

Remember a Positive mutation is an Asset and a Negative one is a Liability etcÖ.Adjust as necessary. Please note the Perk ALIEN ARTIFACT should be changed to Ancient Human Artifact since there are no aliens in RED DWARF.

Skills:

When it comes to Skill levels the number of Dice above the attribute dice in WEG is equal to the XPG skill lever. Round down the modifiers. Example Joe has a WEG Agility score of 3D+1 and a firearms skill of 6D. In XPG he has an AGILITY of 4 and a Firearms skill of 3.

D6 Space Advantages, disadvantages and special abilities can be converted to XPG Traits (Assets & Liabilities) and Behavior Tags. Again use your best judgment when applying modifiers. Limit range between +1 to +3 as the AI sees fit

 

 

7. UNIVERSAL MULTIGENRE ROLEPLAYING SYSTEM (i.e. UNISYSTEM) to Deep7 XPG

First see which UNISYSTEM Attributes correspond to which XPG Stats. The values are nearly the same and only require you add one point to each skill.
